Monaster Block

The Monaster Block comprises six contiguous prospecting licences (PLs) in County Limerick, Ireland. The licence block is located in a highly prospective area for base metal mineralisation and is 5km from the Tobermalug and Caherconlish zinc discoveries at Pallas Green that are currently being evaluated by Glencore. The Monaster Block is in Joint Venture with Teck.  Connemara holds a 23.5% working interest.  Over $9m has been spent on exploration.

Prospective Waulsortian Reef Limestones lithologies underlie much of the Monaster Block. These are overlain in part by Supra-reef Limestones and Volcanics, primarily in the east.

The exploration programme over the past 18 months has included: Airborne Gravity Survey, Seismic Reflection Survey, Regional Soil Geochemical Survey and Downhole IP. The drill programme has completed more than 135 drill holes.

Table 1 – Some drilling highlights (see link for more results)

Stonepark mineralization continues to be extended and remains open in all directions at Stonepark West. Regional drilling across the block continued to target combined geological/geochemical/geophysical targets with some success, for example:

  • TC-2638-084 at Fedamore which intersected minor vein sphalerite and galena below 300m.
  • TC-2927-007 at Rockfield with minor colloform sphalerite below 292m.
  • TC-2927-008 at Crecora with thick zones BMBs, massive pyrite and minor sphalerite
  • TC-450-009 at Limerick South with extensive dolomitization, minor vein sphalerite below 441m.

Limited work has been done in 2014/2015 while a strategic review is being undertaken.
